Dental Emergencies

Dental Emergencies

A dental emergency is a type of medical emergency that involves the oral cavity and/or the surrounding anatomy. This could be the teeth, gingiva, tongue, cheeks, lips or even the TMJ.

Dental emergencies can arise from any number of reasons ranging from trauma to abcesses to cavities. Pain involving the mouth, even when minor, can indicate a severe underlying problem which can worsen with time.

It is for this reason that no dental emergency should be ignored. It is important to contact a dentist as soon as possible for a professional evaluation of the situation. Most often, a short term treatment can be initiated to relieve the acute symptoms such as pain and swelling.

At Dr's. Lantner and Goldberg, we take dental emergencies very seriously. During office hours, we try to accomodate all emergencies by seeing you that day. If your emergency occurs after the office is closed, like over the weekend or on a holiday, you will be prompted by our answering service to leave a detailed message that will be redirected to one of the doctors. The doctor will then call you directly and a course of action can be determined.
